Match report: UD Las Palmas 1-1 RCD Mallorca

Antonio Raíllo cancels out Jonathan Viera’s first-half strike at the Gran Canaria Stadium

We kicked off the new season with a 1-1 draw at UD Las Palmas as Antonio Raíllo cancelled out Jonathan Viera’s first-half penalty.

Omar Mascarell was handed his debut as Javier Aguirre opted for his preferred 5-3-2 formation, while new signings Sergi Darder, Cyle Larin and Samu Costa were listed among the substitutes.

Dani Rodríguez had the game’s first chance as the post denied him from giving us the lead in the 21st minute after Vedat Muriqi had teed him up in the box.

The hosts took the lead seven minutes later when Vieria made no mistake from the spot after a VAR review adjudged Jose Copete to have fouled Sandro.

We were awarded our only penalty just six minutes before the break as Amath was tripped in the box, although Muriqi crashed his effort against the crossbar.

Raíllo and Darder were introduced at the break as we searched for an equaliser, with Manu Morlanes coming close to levelling.

It was the captain who would give us a lifeline back into the game as Raíllo jumped highest to head home Darder’s whipped corner.

The hosts troubled us towards the end with a few late chances, although we held firm to ensure we headed back home with a point.
