Vicente Moreno spoke to the media after our emphatic 5-1 victory over relegation rivals RC Celta as we closed the gap to safety to just five points. While a brace from Ante Budimir and goals from Salva Sevilla, Alejandro Pozo and Cucho Hernández take the headlines, the boss reflected on our performance and where that leaves us ahead of a trip to the capital.
On the performance...
"It's the first game we've won since the break. We've been looking for that in every game, and today we've done it. We’re happy because the work of the players has been rewarded. Under normal conditions we would not have used Lumor, but we’re in a situation of need and he wanted to help. We must wait for the tests and with the amount of matches we have to play, and however little it may be, matches will be lost.
“I'm happy because the team deserved it and the fans are with us on the outside. I don't think it's easy with the setbacks we've had and with results we didn't expect. Today the team has shown that it wants it and wants to overcome adversity.”
On where that leaves us ahead of facing Atletico Madrid...
"In the Wanda it is not one of those pitches where you think you can score, but there is a greatness about football [in that sense]. We’ll try to get the three points and get a little closer to our target.
"The reality is that today was a match which could have seen us get closer [to safety] or further away. We're five points away and hope to add victories and while others don’t get them. There's one thing this team has and that is we're going to fight to the end to give joy to our fans.
"We're better off than where we were before we started the game. We’re two games away, not only from Celta Vigo, but also from Eibar. The most important thing is to win our matches. We're not going falter. It's not easy and we can't fool ourselves, but we're five points away and we're going to go and try to win in Madrid to keep getting closer."
