Vicente Moreno: ‘Despite the result, you can’t blame the players’

The boss spoke to journalists via a virtual press conference following our 4-0 defeat to FC Barcelona

Vicente Moreno spoke for the first time at a post-match press conference in over three months following our 4-0 defeat to FC Barcelona at Visit Mallorca Estati. The boss discussed our performance, what this means for our relegation fight and playing behind closed doors.

On the game…

They moved the ball very quickly. The atmosphere and the goal conceded in the first minute didn’t helped. Then we had times when we got things right. They’ve a lot of quality and, as time went on, they converted their chances and it became harder. The day would have been good if the team had won. If the result is negative then you look at the other results, but to beat the drop we have to win. We must go week by week and not fail.

“To choose 11 players you always look at that as an inconvenience and, above all, the rationing of minutes. It’s difficult to think that the same 11 will always play. You have to be very careful because if you get injured now, you can miss many games ”.

On the opposition and playing without fans…

"They’ve been better. We had a hard time getting started and that gives the advantage to a team like FC Barcelona. Playing against FC Barcelona is never easy, with or without an audience. We've had a hard time adapting to the situation. It's just one more difficulty, but it's a situation we have to adapt to. It means that this situation will take away the advantage slightly of being at home, but perhaps this situation could be good for us.”

On the fixture schedule...

"The calendar is difficult. We will alternate with opposition teams  from the top and also those who are very close to us. We know who we have in front of us, but we have to be calm. We know the points we need and the teams we have to face. When we play against direct rivals, we cannot fail.

"There's no time to hesitate. There are days when players are finer and others less so. It is not the day to calibrate. On the left wing, there was a certain Messi and it’s not easy. Today the players we had available played. ”
