RCD Mallorca were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw against CA Osasuna having taken the lead twice through Lago Junior and Salva Sevilla.
We began our second fixture in five days at a sluggish pace, with former Mallorquinista Brandon Thomas first unable to get his curled shot on target before Martin Valjent’s acrobatic defending cleared a second effort off the line.
Lago Junior showed composure from the spot to put to bed a shaky start in the 21st minute after Roberto Torres’ trip on Dani Rodríguez in the box needed no VAR consultation.
The winger’s second strike in three games would be the only goal of a highly contested first half, despite the Tribuna Sol stand momentarily thinking Lumor had doubled the advantage with a thunderous effort into the side-netting.
While the game continued to teeter on a knife’s edge with half-chances for both sides, it wasn’t until the hour mark that Ante Budimir was able to test Rubén Iván Martínez with a low drive.
Against the run of increasing pressure, CA Osasuna levelled matters in the 69th minute after Marc Cardona managed to ghost towards goal and find the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
We didn’t require much time to restore our lead with Salva Sevilla firing home the second penalty of the evening in the 75th minute after Roncaglia had handled in the box.
Joy was short lived however, as two minutes later Rubén Garcia gave Manolo Reina little chance of making a save with a powerful header.
The late leveller was a bitter bill to swallow and proved to be the final action of the game, but we must quickly regroup ahead of a trip to Real Valladolid in three days' time.
