Match Report: Sevilla FC 2-0 RCD Mallorca

We suffered a frustrating evening at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan as Lucas Ocampos and Yousef En-Nesyri put us to the sword in the Andalusian capital

Goals either side of half-time from Lucas Ocampos and Yousef En-Nesyri condemened us to a 2-0 defeat as lost ground in our fight for survival with two games now remaining.

Vicente Moreno made just one change to the side that beat Levante U.D. at the Visit Mallorca Estadi three days prior, replacing Martin Valjent with Aleksandar Sedlar in central defence.

Both sides had plenty to play for heading into the fixture given the hosts’ fight for a top four spot, yet the opening exchanges were limited to half chances as we looked to find our rhythm.

It wasn’t until 15 minutes were on the clock that Manolo Reina was properly tested, getting down well to his right to stop Ever Banega’s effort and then later producing a spectacular double save to deny Fernando.

We would however go into the break a goal down after VAR ruled Alejandro Pozo to have handled in the area and Lucas Ocampos dispatched the resulting penalty on the 41st minute.

The setback didn’t dent our hope of getting something out of this fixture, as Cucho Hernández rose highest in the box to force Yassine Bono into tipping wide a header which looked destined for the top corner.

Offensive substitutes in Aleksandar Trajkovski, Lago Junior and Abdón changed the dynamic of the game as we searched for a late equaliser. The former tested Bono shortly after his introduction with a shot at goal and Salva Sevilla fired high and wide from outside the box with a speculative effort as time ebbed away.

Our surges forward ultimately gave Yousef En-Nesyri punish us on the counter-attack, racing in-behind to lob the on-rushing Manolo Reina to put the game beyond doubt with less than 10 minutes to go.

The fullt-time whistle went with the scoreline the same despite late chances for Trajkovski and Lago Junior, although we have the chance to quickly bounce back with the hosting of Granada at the Visit Mallorca Estadi in four days' time. Three points on the penultimate Matchday of the season could see us go level on points at the bottom should other results go our way.
