Match Report: Real Unión 0-1 RCD Mallorca

Dani Rodríguez got the only goal of the game as we advanced in the Copa del Rey

Dani Rodríguez got the only goal of the game as we returned to competitive football following the World Cup break with a 1-0 win against Real Unión in the Copa del Rey.

Javier Aguirre named a strong side having had a fully healthy squad to choose from as Kang-In Lee and Vedat Muriqi led the forward line.

We started the stronger side and perhaps should have taken the lead within minutes when Muriqi missed a golden opportunity, although the hosts looked dangerous on the counter-attack and forced Dominik Grief into a fine save in the seventh minute when David Movilla latched onto a cross.

Dani Rodríguez then scored what would be the only goal of the game in the 20th minute when he won possession and fired home to give us the lead heading into the break.

Muriqi continued to look dangerous after the restart and came close to doubling our lead with a header in the 55th minute.

Grief had to be on fine form to ensure we conserved our lead as the game headed into its final stages, making a good save to deny Bravo with four minutes left on the clock.

Substitutes Tino Kadewere and Ángel came close to adding a second in injury time, although we managed to hold onto our lead to secure passage into the next round of the Copa del Rey.
