Pablo Maffeo scored a dramatic last-minute equaliser as we drew 2-2 with Elche CF at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.
The suspended Luis García Plaza watched from the stands as he made two changes to the side following 1-1 draw with Cádiz CF a week prior. Jaume Costa replaced Brian Olivan in defence while Antonio Sánchez featured at the expense of Amath.
There was little to separate the two sides throughout the opening exchanges, although the best chance of the first half fell to Angel in the sixth minute as he found himself unmarked in the box after a clever one-two with Costa but was denied by the on-rushing Edgar Badía.
The visitors’ best chance of the first half fell to Lucas Perez in the 36th minute, although Martin Valjent was on hand to make a late block after the forward raced in behind at an angle.
With chances few and far between, the opening 45 minutes ended with the scoreline level and plenty to do in the second half.
It wasn’t until past the hour mark when the game started to open up as Iddrisu Baba let fly from distance in the 63rd minute and forced Badía into a reaction stop, and with the follow-up falling in our favour, Angél was unable to direct the second ball goalwards.
Lucas Boyé gave Elche the lead in the 68th minute when he robbed Franco Russo of possession and beat Manolo Reina.
We were handed an opportunity to respond three minutes later when Josema made a clumsy foul on Pablo Maffeo which left the referee with little doubt to award a penalty. Salva Sevilla made no mistake from the spot and calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner to level.
Boyé struck again three minutes later to restore Elche’s lead courtesy of a cross to the near post from Johan Mojica which required just a connection from the striker.
We went on the offensive in search of a late equaliser, and with Manolo Reina up for the corner in what was one of the last kicks of the game, Maffeo climbed highest to head home and get a late leveller.
