RCD Mallorca have drawn with Tenerife in a game where they lacked ball control and were more concerned to keep Amath and the gang quiet. The game anyway had quite a few clear-cut chances and the Reds could have bargained for something more, wasn’t it for Brandon’s late chance one-on-one with the keeper.
The first half was dominated by Tenerife. Pep Lluis Marti protégés came out stronger with a clear intention on keeping the ball. Great influence of players in the area covered and the intensity of their attacker did unsettle Mallorca, who found themselves in a battle to brake them.
In the 17th minute, Lozano sets up Amath who one-on-one with Santamaria misses because of the keepers’ great reflexes. Vazquez men had a hard time retaining possession and were forced to play long balls to keep danger away.
The pressure was constant, and despite the lack of clear chances because of good positioning and great rival defending, we can highlight a good header from a corner in the 38th minute, that went just inches wide Santamaria’s goal.
The second half started the same way, with Tenerife exploiting the speed of their wingers and a Mallorca side looking a bit overwhelmed. In spite of that, there was not excessive danger to the Mallorca goal. As minutes rolled, Vazquez felt more comfortable. Brandon in the 54th minute created a play that ended in a shot stopped by Dani, without much hassle.
Possession was balanced and Mallorca started looming close to Tenerife’s box, despite much clarity. The best chance in those stages of the game was for Tenerife – again – when Campabadal first and Yuste secondly had to clear the ball off the line.
Despite the local ímpetus, Mallorca could have travelled back with three points wasn’t it for the last play of the game when Brandon missed a one-on-one with the keeper. In conclusión, a valuable point in a game that lacked spark from the Reds’ side.
