Match report CD Lugo 3 RCD Mallorca 1

Reds lose a game that started winning after succumbing to local accuracy

RCD Mallorca have been defeated 3-1 to Lugo in a game that the away side started winning but the local came back through a splendid Joselu that kept the points at stake home.

The game could not have started better for RCDM, when after a first warning shot from Lago, Brandon in the 5th minute from a corner kicked home the first one. Mallorca pushed forward its lines and started play jogo bonito, especially down the wings.

From the wings came the equalizer from Pita, who did not miss a superb cross into the penalti area. It was in the 14th minute. The game’s pace was unleashed with the draw. It became a box-to-box game and both teams had chances to increase the score. Cabrero in the 17th minute saved a Joselu shot one-on-one against him and the local goalie Jose Juan did the same to Moutinho in the 26th minute.

Barely a minute after, with both teams more concerned with Rolling back, the local caught the Reds daydreaming and through Pedraza started a fantastic counter that wound up on Joselu’s boots to make it 1-2.

Mallorca did not shrug and keep trying. Lago in the 35th minute headed a nice cross from Campabadal but Jose Juan was so right to block it. Brandon minutes after tried from the angle but same result – no goal.

The second half started the same way with both teams attacking but no lord of the ball. The local keeper in the 48th minute stretched a foot to save a Lago Junior strike and two minutes after Yuste cleared off the line a terrifying ball after a corner.

Lugo boys pushed so much and Vazquez did try to keep the ball in vain. Brandon did try in the 65th minute but his shot went too wide.

Locals didn’t stop looking spaces into the defence to reach Cabrero and all these efforts were awarded in the 74th minute after a bad deflection that wound up on Joselu’s boots, who was in the small box and the former Reds’ player volleyed it home.

After this demolishing score, Vazquez men stampeded towards Lugo’s box but their chances were not that clear and the score didn’t move. Jose Juan cleared a last attempt from Lago who was left alone facing the keeper. Until the final whistle no more remarkable actions were left to comment.
