We were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Cadíz CF as Alvar Negredo’s penalty in injury time cancelled out Iddrisu Baba’s first-half strike.
Luis García Plaza made two changes to the side which drew 1-1 with Sevilla FC midweek. Salva Sevilla replaced Íñigo Ruíz de Galarreta in midfield, while Kang-In Lee returned to the starting XI following his suspension at the expense of Antonio Sánchez.
We had to wait until the 21st minute before our first sight at goal as Salva Sevilla crashed a whipped free-kick from 25-yards out against the underside of the crossbar.
The midfielder continued to torment the hosts as he slipped Amath Ndiaye through on goal eight minutes later, although the forward was unable to beat Ledesma at the near post.
Cadíz CF didn’t heed the warning signs as Idrissu Baba reacted first to a loose ball in the box from a corner and volleyed home just a minute later to give us the lead.
The first half wouldn’t end without a late scare as Sobrino found himself through one-on-one with Manolo Reina, although the goalkeeper managed to tip his effort onto the bar and gather the second ball.
We were the stronger side after the restart as Kang-In Lee first hit the cross bar before Ángel forced Ledesma into a fine save inside the first 10 minutes.
The Andalusian side thought they had been reduced to 10-men when Iza hauled down Dani Rodríguez as he raced through on goal, but the red card was withdrawn following a VAR inspection. Luis García Plaza, for his protests, was then sent to the stands.
The red cards didn’t stop there as Aleksandar Sedlar received his marching orders for a second bookable offence with four minutes remaining.
We were unlucky to concede a penalty in injury time as Joan Sastre was pulled up for tripping an opposition player in the box before Alvaro Negredo made no mistake from the penalty spot to ensure the points are shared.
