Martin Valjent: ‘It’s an important game, but there’s a long way to go still’

The defender spoke to journalists in his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with RCD Espanyol

Martin Valjent has underlined the importance of our trip to RCD Espanyol this Sunday, but believes there’s still a long way to go in the domestic campaign.

The Periquitos will be looking to move out from bottom of the league by drawing level with us on 18 points at the RCDE Stadium, although our centre back says nothing will be concluded this weekend with three months still remaining in La Liga.

“It’s an important game against an important opposition, but it’s not definitive,” he said. “There’s a lot of the league to go. We need to win, for the points and for winning away from home. It’s a against a direct rival, but there’s still three months to go in the league.”

A disappointing defeat to Real Valladolid on Matchday 22 was made worse by Antonio Raillo picking up an injury, but Valjent is confident the side can return to winning ways with the defensive alternatives at Vicente Moreno’s disposal.

“Real Valladolid is in the past; you have to learn from your mistakes and improve. Raillo is improving, he’s a very important player and I hope he can recover. We have other important centre halves. Xisco [Campos] is an exemplary Capitan and [Aleksandar] Sedlar every time he has played has done very well.”
