Luis García Plaza: ‘We will have to be at our best to beat Real Oviedo’

The boss spoke to the press at his pre-match press conference ahead of our first game of the new year

Luis García Plaza is looking to kickstart the new year with three points ahead of our trip to Real Oviedo.

While we head into our first game of 2021 with several players unavailable due to suspension and injury, the boss says he has faith in the squad depth available after the Christmas break.

“I care about those who are here,” he told journalists via a remote press conference. “I have shown that I have confidence in the entire squad so far this season. I trust those who are here and those who are going to play. It's true that there are a lot of players missing but to be a top team we have to try and overcome it and not think about it.

“The players have come back from the break well and of the weight we demand from them. They honestly take care of themselves and are all well. We have trained well, I can see they are focused and are looking forward to tomorrow's game. I think it's going to be a hard and intense game, but hopefully we'll be able to continue in good form and get more points.”

While we ended the year in second place after our first defeat in 18 games at home to Fuenlabrada, Luis García believes Matchday 20’s hosts must not be underestimated.

“Real Oviedo is a very competitive team and work well under Cuco Ziganda," he continued. "They have a few players missing also, but they’re too are a tough team and put in blocks together, press aggressively and hit you quickly on the counter attack. We’re going to have to be at our best to beat them.”
