Luis García Plaza: ‘We leave with our heads held high and are focused on facing Las Palmas’

The boss spoke to the media after penalty shootout defeat to CF Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey

Luis García Plaza spoke to the media after our penalty shootout defeat to CF Fuenlabrada in the second round of the Copa del Rey. Find out what the boss had to say about the performance, the competition and our league form.

On the game...

The team has forced things and levelled when it was most difficult. On penalties they qualified, but we hold our heads high and prepare for Las Palmas. In the end, we managed to draw, the team scored a goal that was very hard and then with penalties, you can either qualify or you can lose.

With Miquel, it is important to encourage him. It's a goal that's pretty hard, and it's the same with Braian Cufré - with this penalty the team can qualify. In the end, there is nothing else to it. That's how it is and there's no need to go around it any more.

If that doesn't happen to Miquel, we don't concede. We have to improve things as usual, but it wasn't easy because the field was complicated. We must continue to improve. The second goal can happen, and that's it. At best, in other games we have more luck and everything happens the other way around.

On the Copa del Rey...

At the end of the day, we are not going to win the Copa del Rey, and with all due respect to CF Fuenlabrada and hopefully I am wrong, but neither are CF Fuenlabrada.

On penalties...

It is not a defeat to lose at CF Fuenlabrada, which is a team in the Second Division, on penalties. If it's 3-0, you come out with a bad feeling, but penalties are penalties, you don't need to think about it much more than that.

On the opposition beating us twice...

The games against CF Fuenlabrada have had a lot of things happen, here at home and in the Copa del Rey. I hope when we go to Madrid nothing else happens.
