Luis García Plaza: ‘We have not done well enough in the last quarter of the pitch’

The boss reflected on our first away defeat of the season against Sporting Gijón

Luis García Plaza spoke to the media after our 2-0 defeat at Sporting Gijón. Find out what the boss had to say about the first defeat of the season away from home, our form and where it went wrong at El Molinón.

On the game...
"For me it was an even game that was defined by the details. We were very poor in the last quarter of the pitch, very imprecise. It's a day when things don't go the way we wanted them to go.”

On the opposition...
“I think the result is too much punishment. The penalty marks the game but Sporting are fifth in the table and when you're fifth in the table it's for a reason, they're a very good team.”

On the penalty...
"It's a penalty, the way they're giving it, it's a penalty. Now, from my point of view, none of these penalties should be penalties. I was angry with the second goal, we gave it to them on a plate, it wasn't a dangerous play. I thought we could give them a push at the end, but due to bad luck, we gave away the second goal.”

On recovering...
"Now we have to think about the next game, this is very long, we have to keep on winning. We have to pick ourselves up and think about Oviedo.”
