Luis García Plaza: ‘Today I’ve seen the team we want to be’

The manager reflected upon our 0-0 draw at RCD Espanyol, his team selection and Ante Budimir

We recorded our first point of the season with a goalless draw against RCD Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium. Manager Luis García Plaza was on press conference duties after the result and shared his thoughts with journalists via video call in line with health and safety protocol. Find out what he had to say about the performance, team selection and Ante Budimir.

On his selection....

“Not everyone can play. I can't explain why the other 25 players haven’t played every matchday. Today with Abdón I looked for the presence up front that he has. Both he and Alegría have worked very well in both games. Even if Budimir was in there, they're going to play matches.

"Antonio [Sánchez] can play anywhere. He adapted very quickly. In the second half we wanted to make changes faster but I really liked the team in the second half. As for Mboula, he has played well and had a good chance."

On the performance...

"What counts is the result. Second games change a lot. Since I got here, everything has been very strange but the players believe. At home, we have to win and get all three points next Sunday."

On the result...

If we win next Sunday, that will be four points. Today we saw the team we want to be. Hopefully come Sunday at this time, we have those four points and the same good feeling.”

On Ante Budmir....

"The club has told me that Budimir will leave if the money that is asked for him arrives. There's no case against Budimir. When he tells me he's okay, he'll be good to go. He's our player until otherwise is said.”
