Luis García Plaza: ‘It’s a point more and we shouldn’t think too much about it’

The boss spoke to the media following our 2-2 draw against Real Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere

The boss was on press duties after we started the new year with a 2-2 draw at Real Oviedo. Find out what Luis García Plaza had to say about the performance, the result and Lago Junior’s goal.

On the game...
"The key part of the game was when they drew level at 1-2. If we had got to the break with the scoreline at 2-0, they would have been in trouble. It was a complicated game for us for many reasons. We didn’t think the pitch was going to be like that and had to change Brian Oliván – it’s one more point and we shouldn’t think too much about it.

"The first goal we conceded I didn’t like as I think it was very avoidable and it gave them a lot of morale. We have to continue and try to keep fighting with those at the top of the table.

"It’s been a strange week as we thought other players would be with us. We thought Martin Valjent would be with us – although Sedlar and Russo were good – and then we had the two positive cases. Amath was missing a few days of training. It has been an odd week as we had to take four players from the academy."

On the pitch...

"It’s been years since we played in conditions like that with such rain. The ball wouldn’t sit up, so it was very difficult, but when you go 2-0 up and draw you leave with your heads down. At the end of the day, we have to understand that football is in general lines and we can reach 45 points if we win against Las Palmas next at home."

On Lago Junior...

"I thought he was good. This type of pitch suits him because he’s got a lot of strength. There are no players who are untouchable, but he has to feel that I have confidence in him. I spoke with him a few weeks ago and he’s a very positive character and I could see he was a bit down. That’s changed, and aside from his goal, he’s had a really good game."
