Luis García Plaza: ‘If you don’t win, you must add a point and move on’

The boss reflected on our performance and the week ahead following our goalless draw at Real Zaragoza

Luis García Plaza faced up to journalists at his post-match press conference to share his thoughts on our goalless draw at Real Zaragoza, the team’s performance and what lies ahead after a difficult week of back-to-back fixtures. See what the boss had to say below:

On the game...
"After an even first half, the second half has been much better and we had to win. In the end, it’s [a matter of] goals. We continue without having lost and move on. We have had several clear chances, but I liked the team. The team has a lot of ambition and this is the way to go. The attitude has been good. The rival also played, but today we have not been successful. As for going after games, this team deserves a 10. Coming to La Romareda - and leaving knowing you could have won - is good. We have done things well and got into their final third.”

On the team...

"The team goes for the game and that’s how you move up. We may not have a presence in the area because we have smaller players. Every player contributes. As long as the team continues feeling that, we will be up there. If you can't win, add a point and move on.

"There is a lot of competition in this squad. In my head, I have some ideas, but in the end, we take advantage of the characteristics these players have. When you play five games in thirteen days you have to do this. If you have fresh players, you can do that."

On the past week...

"There’s a mental fatigue. Once again, we had to put ourselves out there and with our way of playing that’s hard. Players wear themselves out and there are a lot of games. We’re already thinking about the next one and we have time to prepare it."

On the week ahead...

“We’ve not lost in nine games, but if we enter a bad dynamic, that can go. This team has shown that it is ambitious.  Each game, we’re changing and improving. It invites optimism, but the day we don't do what we work on, it will be hard. Now we have to think about next weekend. We go again.”
