Luis García Plaza: I have confidence in the team and we are eager to achieve our goal’

The boss spoke to the media ahead of our clash with CD Tenerife in his pre-match press conference

Luis García Plaza says his side are in touching distance of achieving automatic promotion as a point will secure against CD Tenerife on Wednesday evening will secure LaLiga football next season.

Sitting in second position with just a draw required from a final two games of the season to guarantee promotion, the boss believes keeping eyes on the prize will be the key to success at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López.

“When you've been fighting for a goal for so long, you want it to come as soon as possible,” he told journalists at a pre-match press conference. “Now it is not easy to isolate ourselves. If it's not today, or tomorrow, we still have two more chances. I trust the team to show its face and we have a dressing room that knows what this is like. We have to be calm and focus on what we do.

"Now I really think we can go up. Hopefully the sooner we can get it, the better. Things are celebrated when they are achieved. We know that winning is not easy. The match against Alcorcón was a game which was very emotional, but we are already focused on Tenerife. I trust in the team and we are eager to achieve our objective.”

Despite the adulation as the season reaches its climax, the boss is keen for his side to stay focused.

"Our job is Tenerife - there is nothing else,” he continued. “I have to focus on my job. When the season started I thought I would be fighting for the playoffs. They started badly and in this division it is not easy.

“They are a very organised and compact team, and it's not easy to get their hands on them. They have a good squad and we will have a great game to win there. We will do our job and continue as we have done in the last few games.”
