Ki Sung-yeung says he is honoured to play for RCD Mallorca having signed for the club on a free transfer.
The midfielder arrives at Son Moix in a deal that will last until the end of the season following a decade in the United Kingdom featuring for Celtic, Swansea City, Sunderland, Newcastle United, and says he can’t wait to help the side fight for survival.
“First of all, I think we have to stay in the league - that’s the priority,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s a little bit of a difficult situation, but I think we can do it for sure. I watched some games of the players and I think they have enough quality to stay in the league. I think I will try to be fitter by training more and then help the team to stay in the league.
Having grown up in Seoul before then going onto become one of the highest-capped players in South Korea history, Ki believes joining RCD Mallorca ranks as one of the proudest moments of his career to date.
“It’s a great honour to play for Mallorca. For me, it’s a great honour to play in Spain because when I was younger I dreamt of playing in Spain so hopefully I’m looking forward to playing against the best players. Dreams do come true.
"I think now fans from Korea are going to try and be a bit more interested because I play for the team. Take Kubo is also a very talented player and those from Japan are watching games. Hopefully we will be able to contribute to the team and a lot of fans from the area will support us.
