Julián Robles: ‘Our goal is to prepare ourselves for an express play-off’

The manager spoke to Play Red after it was announced his RCD Mallorca B side will play CD Ibiza in the first round of a promotion play-off

Following the Real Federación Española de Fútbol’s decision to conclude non-professional football this season and introduce an alternative play-off system for promotion, RCD Mallorca B manager Julián Robles believes his side knows what is expected of them.

Our youngsters will first face CD Ibiza on a date yet to be decided for a place in a play-off final against either UD Poblense or CE Felanitx, although Robles says preparation will need to be at the foundation of any potential ascension.

“We would have liked to have been able to play the remaining games and potentially achieve our sporting objectives on the pitch,” he told Play Red. “Although now we have a clear path to follow: to work and prepare for the express play-off ahead of us.

“We'll face a tough opponent, although any one of those three teams would be very difficult. CD Ibiza are a difficult team with very good players, but we have time to prepare well for the fixture.”

Having registered three consecutive wins without conceding prior to the suspension of competitive football, Robles believes additions made to the squad ahead of the second half have had the desired impact.

“We had seen a margin for improvement in the last 10 games while in the play-off positions, which has been helped in part by the four additions made ahead of the second half of the season. The growth of all players was important and we hope they’re at their best for the express play-off we will face.”
