José Luis Saso (Madrid, 1926-2006) is one of the important historical figures that the RCD Mallorca and the Real Valladolid share. Formed in the lower categories of Atletico Madrid, Saso was the goalkeeper of the Real Valladolid Durtante 10 seasons (between 1948 and 1958), all of them in the highest category of Spanish football. In his last year as Carcerbero Valladolid, Saso also took the reins of the team in the final stretch of the championship, although he could not avoid the descent to the second Dvisión. However, Saso continued as a technician and managed to recoup and recover the first division in the 1958-59 course.
His good work on the bench of Real Valladolid led him to the technical chart of the lower categories of the Spanish national team and in the 1960-61 season the RCD Mallorca crossed its way. Jaume Rosselló, President of RCD Mallorca, entrusted him with the difficult task of replacing Juan Carlos Lorenzo, a club myth that climbed the first Vermilion team from the Third division to the highest category. Already in the first Division, Lorenzo could not continue beyond the 13th and Fate wanted Saso to debut in league against Real Valladolid, a team that had also trained at the beginning of that season. On January 1, 1961, RCD Mallorca imposed 3-1 on Real Valladolid with two goals from Haro and one from Navarro. With Saso as a coach, RCD Mallorca tied the permanence and won prestigious wins in the year of its debut in Primera. In the Lluís Sitjar, 3-1 was imposed on FC Barcelona or 4-0 in Valencia. Far from Palma, the RCD Mallorca defeated 0-2 in Sevilla or 1-2 in San mamas.
Despite being a man loved by the hobby, Saso did not reach an agreement with Rosselló to renew his contract and Finiquitó the first of its four stages in the club. The second would arrive the following year, in which he relieved Satur Grech. Rosselló called him to save the situation in the 1961-62 season and this second stage lasted until the last dates of the campaña1962-63. José Luis Saso left the bench before the lost promotion against RCD Espanyol which meant the descent to the second division. Saso returned to Real Valladolid, where he went to his president between 1965 and 1967, before returning to Palma to carry out a special mission: to save RCD Mallorca from the rellegation to third Division. In the season 1967-68, the directors Benito Oria, fart Mus and José María Lafuente persuaded him to take the helm of the first team and to return to relieve Juan Carlos Lorenzo, who had left traumatic form of the Mallorquinista bench. Saso could not exercise from the bench to have been a director of Real Valladolid and directed the team from the stand with Jaume Turró on the bench.
After this third stage, Saso returned to his other home, Real Valladolid, where he trained his first team in the 1969-70 course. Between 1970 and 1973, José Luis Saso was technical secretary of the club and also coach, positions that he held alternately with Joancho Forneris. Both were exchanged roles and, from the technical Secretariat, Saso carried out important operations such as the signing of Chango Diaz. Before, in the years 60, the Spaniard had shown good eye with very profitable incorporations later as those of the brothers Bergara. After three intense years, Saso said goodbye to RCD Mallorca to re-open the gate of Real Valladolid, club to which he would train in two more stages, the last of the season 1992-93.
