Javier Aguirre: “You have to go out and win the game”

The boss spoke to the media ahead of our trip to Elche

Javier Aguirre has urged his side to avenge our last defeat to Elche ahead of our first match-up of the season on Monday evening.

We travel to Alicante looking to get our first win since the return of club football and the boss believes a 3-0 defeat to Elche last season should motivate our squad to get all three points.

"Elche is a team that is having a few difficulties at the moment, but that makes them doubly dangerous because they also play at their home,” Aguirre told the media. “I reminded the players they beat us 3-0 last year - it was a very painful defeat. It's a game in which we have to show ourselves.

"It's a tough game. I’m looking at it with unknown entities. Their new coach is from their home. With Francisco they had an idea, a style, a way of playing. Now we don't know what we're going to find.

“We do know what we have to do. We have rehearsed different ways that our opponents can play. We have to focus on what we do, on being better with the ball. I am convinced that we have been growing with it. I was happy with the Barcelona match. The team has improved tactically. Tomorrow is a good thermometer.”

The boss also gave the media an injury update as Tino Kadewere remains ruled out with injury and Jaume Costa still faces a few weeks on the sidelines, while Dominik Greif has stepped up his recovery process.
