Javier Aguirre: “We have to play our best game”

The boss looked ahead to our clash with Girona FC in the Copa del Rey

Javier Aguirre was on pre-match press conference duties ahead of our Copa del Rey quarter-final against Girona FC. Find out what the boss had to say below:

On the team: "Physically, we are all well because we have been able to rest. We are managing our workloads well. It won't be an excuse, I'm sure we're going to be at the races."

On the key word for tomorrow: "Yes, there is a key word that I have used all year. The word is ‘commitment’. I think the team is committed in both competitions."

On Girona: "It's going to be a very difficult game for us because they are playing very well and they have players who do their job very well with a lot of individual quality. They have a great coach. I think they are the most fashionable team right now, not only in the league, but also in Europe."

On the dressing room: "I haven't stressed to them the importance of the game because I see what they are like every day. I don't need to remind them of the importance of every home game, I don't need to remind them of the commitment to the fans. I don't need to because I see them well.”

On tomorrow's goalkeepers: "I have three goalkeepers who are very good. Cuellar was at home for eight days, but he was back yesterday."

On Girona's season: "It is 100% on the coach and the players. What goes on outside doesn't matter. They are the important ones: the coach, his staff and the squad."

On absentees: "Maffeo.”

On the league match against Girona: "In Girona we hit rock bottom. Abdón made up for it with two goals, but it was a terrible first half, especially. From then on we have worked seriously and I think we have improved."

On Muriqi: "I saw him well. I didn't even want to put him on the bench but between the doctor, the coaching staff and him, they convinced me to take him.”

On the possibility of winning a title in Spain: "There are eight teams. We have to play our best game. We have to respect our opponents. I want to have a good team and a good game tomorrow and then we'll see."

On possible signings: "I'm not sure of anything. They gave me an interesting list. I don't get involved in economic issues, but I gave them my preferences from that list."
