Javier Aguirre: “We are going to Getafe to compete and get the points”

Our new boss faced the media ahead of our trip to the capital

Javier Aguirre says his side are going to compete against Getafe for all three points ahead of his debut as first-team manager on Saturday afternoon.

Our new boss held his first pre-match press conference prior to our trip to Madrid, and says he has been impressed with what he has seen in his first fortnight at the club.

"The first impression has been very good,” he said. “We are all looking forward to it. It's true that we had the setback of Sedlar's injury, and we can't count on him. The international players have all arrived well.

"We are going to try to get enough points in the last nine games to stay in LaLiga. Hopefully it will be by playing good football and beating our opponents in tactical aspects of the game. That would be the ideal scenario.

"I have found a lot of warmth since my arrival. I have tried to make the team feel alive. We are one point away from salvation with 27 to play for – there is still time.”

Without a win in their last four games, Aguirre believes that Getafe still have enough quality to cause us problems.

"Getafe is a tough, solid team with a lot of quality. It's going to be a hard-fought match. Getafe is an intense and tough team. Nobody is going to give anything away.”
