Javier Aguirre: “They were superior”

The boss gave his thoughts after our 2-0 defeat to Sevilla

Javier Aguirre shared his thoughts on our 2-0 loss to Sevilla in his post-match press conference. Youssef En-Nesyri and Bryan Gil were on target in the first half as we succumbed to a frustrating defeat at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Find out what the boss had to say below:

"I think in the first half we were very organized defensively - we weren't bad. When we went out to get them, we left spaces behind and they put a ball in behind us with a lot of quality, both the passing and the finishing. It is the same for the other. I think the two goals were more their merit than ours. Then it becomes very difficult. We tried; we put in what we could from the bench; we changed the set-up, but it wasn't possible - that was it. They were superior and there's nothing more to talk about.

"We tried with our abilities and it wasn't possible. Sevilla is a very tough opponent. They are a Champions League rival that is down there due to circumstances, but it is not their place because they should be at the top and they will surely improve as time goes by. They are a great team.

"Obviously, we are a team that lives by the day. We are playing every opponent the same way. Trying to take advantage of the capabilities of our players. Moving the team around. They've all played or almost all of them and well, we're a very competitive team. Today we were outplayed by a great opponent. They beat us and that's it.”
