Javier Aguirre: “The last 10 minutes were crazy”

The boss spoke to the media after our 1-0 defeat to Elche

Javier Aguirre was on post-match media duties after our 1-0 defeat to Elche. Lucas Boyé’s late winner decided the match, although we would have pulled level had it not been for a VAR review after Vedat Murqi found the back of the net in injury time. Find out what the boss said below:

"I think we played a good first half. We were in control of the game, but in the final third we lacked that calmness in front of goal. Those are things that we have been lacking throughout the season. The truth is that the second half was more balanced and the last 10 minutes were crazy, I think that's when the team lost concentration. The goal we conceded discouraged us. Everyone thought that the referee was going to annul the play, but well, the referee decides and that's it.

"We celebrated the goal because we thought it was legitimate. My eternal debate with the VAR is why they don't insist or insist and that's it. I simply don't talk about referees. They deserve all my respect.

"Real Sociedad is an opponent that is in Champions League positions. We will have to prepare well during the week. The second rounds are complex, we will try to close well and get the necessary points to achieve our objective as soon as possible.”
