Javier Aguirre: “It was a good cup game”

Find out what the boss had to say about our 2-0 win over Pontevedra

Javier Aguirre spoke to the media after our 2-0 win against Pontevedra in the Copa del Rey. Abdón Prats and Vedat Muriqi struck in extra time to secure our passage into the final eight of the tournament. Find out what the boss had to say below:

"I wanted to see Tino, Ángel and Abdón because they are players who play in a similar position to Vedat, and in the end, all four played. It was a good match, good atmosphere. I loved the mood of the people. I love the Copa del Rey because it gives life [to fans]. The opposition pushed us to the limit. They worked hard and didn't give up even the last balls. It was a beautiful night for the city and for us. I think both teams can be proud.

"It's hard to referee because you don't see things happening. I don't talk about the referees and I won't. It's difficult to referee.

"I think this Copa del Rey match was one of those that give you no respite. The opposing team comes out with everything, very motivated. In practice you can see that nothing is easy. They had just eliminated Tenerife. I congratulated Pontevedra. The crowd was spectacular.

"I think that today the team took a leap forward. The team showed desire, a better physical condition than the other day and above all attitude."
