Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Pablo Maffeo and Augustinsson analyse the defeat to Elche

Find out what the trio had to say about our 1-0 loss

Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Pablo Maffeo and Augustinsson were on post-match media duties after we suffered a 1-0 defeat to Elche. Lucas Boyé’s late winner decided the match, although we would have pulled level had it not been for a VAR review after Vedat Murqi found the back of the net in injury time.

Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta

"I think the first half was very good,” the trio told club media. “We were very much in the game, combining well and getting in the box a lot. We had many chances and it was hard for us to take the lead. It's true that in the second half we got a bit disorganised, we wanted to win the match too quickly, we lacked calmness and we started to make mistakes that created danger in counterattacks, and in the end, we lost the points which is a shame.

"I don't know if the added time could have been more. What I do know is that in the second half we could have done many things better. We have to focus on correcting those things, we have another game at home and go for the three points.

"Both we and the Elche players think that throughout the year we have been living like this. The actions stopping them and watching them in slow motion, because the brace seems greater. For me, they are actions of the game that are not fouls and should have meant the goal stood.”

On the next match

"I think Real Sociedad is one of the best teams in La Liga and they are proving it. It's going to be a very complicated match. We have to play a perfect game to get anything from it.

Pablo Maffeo

"They have started to protest the goal being given - that's what they have to do. I think if anyone sees the play, they're obviously hitting me. I've said it out there, you don't run with your arms glued to your body. When they learn that, they won't call such things fouls.

"In the first half we came out very well and as the game went on, it got complicated for us. We tried to win at home and in the end the coin came down on the other side.

"Next week we have another new opportunity with our fans here and we have to take advantage of it."

Augustinsson

"The first half we had good chances. In the second half, however, the game was more open. A draw would have been the fairest thing.

"We could have played better, but we created good chances. In my opinion, we also scored a goal, but the goal was disallowed by the referee."
