Gio González: “This is a big jump in my career”

The defender spoke to club media for the first time since his January arrival

Gio González says he can’t wait to get started at RCD Mallorca following his January transfer from Peñarol.

The right back is our second signing of the transfer window and believes making the move to Europe from his native Uruguay is a step forward for his career.

"I am very happy to be here, to have the opportunity to take a big jump in my career,” he told club media. “I'm very happy for the welcome I've been given. They have already made me feel like one of the group.

"I am a player who is going to give everything for this shirt, to make things go well and do my bit to help the team achieve its objectives.”

It is no surprise our new signing has quickly adjusted to life in Spain considering his father Juan Antonio González represented both Real Oviedo and Atletico Madrid in the 1990s.

"I lived eight years in Spain when I was a child. I know its culture, its people and its values. That's one of the things why I decided to come here."
