Five players receive international call-ups

Lago Junior could represent the Ivory Coast for the first time as Iddrisu Baba, Aleksandar Trajkovski, Martin Valjent and Ante Budimir also travel

Lago Junior, Iddrisu Baba, Aleksandar Trajkovski, Martin Valjent and Ante Budimir have been called up to represent their respective countries ahead of the upcoming round of international fixtures in October.

Lago Junior has been rewarded for his fine start to the season with his first-ever call-up to the Ivory Coast national side. The winger could make his debut in either of Les Éléphants scheduled friendlies, first facing Belgium in Brussels before crossing the border into the Netherlands for a clash with Japan.

Martin Valjent has further underlined his regular inclusion in the Slovakia national side with his third consecutive squad selection. Our centre back will first face Ireland for a European Championship qualifier, before then testing himself against the forward lines of Scotland and then Israel in the UEFA Nations League. The 24-year-old will be hoping to further build upon the five appearances he has made at international level.

Iddrisu Baba will travel with Ghana for just the second time in his career for their upcoming friendly against Mali. While the fixture will be held in Turkey, the Black Stars are hoping to use the further game in preparation for their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in a month’s time. A second friendly fixture against Guinea has been cancelled due to travel restrictions.

Aleksandar Trajkovski has been called up to represent North Macedonia for a European Championsip qualifier against Kosovo, before later facing Estonia and then Georgia in League C Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League. With 56 caps to his name, our winger remains the most experienced international player in the senior squad.

Ante Budimir will be hoping to make his full debut for Croatia in an upcoming friendly against Switzerland and later fixtures in the UEFA Nations League. The striker is yet to make an appearance for his country having previously been selected for the most recent round of international fixtures.
