Match Report: RCD Mallorca 0-0 Athletic Bilbao

We are held to a point at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix

We had to settle for a point as our search for a first win of the season continues following a goalless draw with Athletic Bilbao.

Javier Aguirre handed a first start to new signing Cyle Larin, while Siebe Van Der Heyden made his first appearance at centre back.

We had the game’s first opportunity in the 17th minute, although a wild volley from Dani Rodríguez was the highlight of a cagey start.

Sancet would come closest to breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute after he wriggled free to find space and fire wide of the post.

Chances were few and far between in the first half and we headed into the break on level terms.

We thought we had taken the lead in the 48th minute when Vedat Muriqi headed home from a well rehearsed set-piece, but his goal was ruled out for an earlier foul by Darder.

Predrag Rajković was called into action on a number of occasions – notably by Inaki Williams – but efforts at our goal proved to be straightforward saves for our shot stopper.

A good spell of pressure yielded a handful of late changes, most notably a ball being cleared from heading goalwards by Williams with the goalkeeper beaten.

The visitors almost provided a late scare as they searched for a late winner, but we held firm to ensure the points were shared.
