Brian Oliván: ‘I see players here with a lot of hunger and ambition’

The left back spoke to journalists at his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with Sporting Gijón

Brian Oliván says he has been impressed with both our start to the season and strength in depth of the squad ahead of our hosting of Sporting Gijón on Sunday afternoon.

While still in the early stages of his RCD Mallorca career having joined the club earlier this summer, the left back believes his start to life in red and black couldn’t have gone any better.

“I am delighted to be on the island as well as in the team,” he told journalists via a remote press conference. I’m in a perfect place to succeed. I knew it was going to be a very exciting and important project for me.

“I was looking forward to a good year, and for the moment, we have started very well. I see players here with a lot of ambition and hunger. That's something you need to have in order to achieve goals come the end of the season."

We head into Matchday 13 having become the team to concede the fewest goals in the Segunda División after 12 games, although Oliván has stressed the importance of consistency ahead of our top-of-the-table clash with promotion rivals Sporting Gijón.

“It’s a very important match because it would put a bit of distance between us and a direct rival," he continued. "We will treat it as a final. I think it's going to be a very difficult opposition and we're going to have to do things very well.

"We can't relax, but we have our ideas very clear. We know we have to give our best to win matches. Both the game we won at Girona and the Sporting Girjon fixture are tests to better know the level of this team."
