Ante Budimir: “We have to play at a high level against Barcelona’

The striker gave his thoughts ahead of Saturday evening’s clash at Camp Nou in his pre-match press conference

Ante Budimir says we must be at our best to get anything out of our trip to Barcelona this Saturday evening on Matchday 16 in La Liga.

The striker has featured in every single game so far this season and believes RCD Mallorca can register a first point on the road at Camp Nou should they stick to the gameplan.

“After the game against Levante I thought we deserved more,” he said at his pre-match press conference. “I’m an optimist, why can’t we get the first points away from home against FC Barcelona? We are conscious that we will face some of the best players in the world, but for us it’s the same thing to prepare against Barcelona or any other side. We always want to win.

“More or less they have only lost one game this year and it's very difficult to get points there. We have to be a team and do a lot of things well to get something. We have to reach our small goals throughout the game and be close to them at all times.

Lionel Messi was awarded his sixth Ballon d'Or prior to our fixture with La Blaugrana, and while a brief presentation has been planned to commend the achievement, Budimir says we will try to make life as difficult as possible for the talisman when the game kicks off.

“Before the game we will all applaud Lionel Messi, but when the game starts, we will have to try and stop him doing damage,” he said. “Everyone has to be at a high level and as a team have a serious game in order to stop Messi and Barcelona.”
