CEO of Business Alfonso Díaz and Sporting Director Pablo Ortells spoke to the media at a club press conference to give fans an update at the halfway point of the campaign.
Having completed the signings of Víctor Mollejo, Álvaro Giménez and Vegas on a hectic transfer deadline day, Ortells shared his thoughts on our mid-season dealings.
"It was not an easy January market,” he told journalists via a virtual press conference. “We wanted to tweak a few things to improve competitiveness, but the team is doing very well so far. We wanted to have all the positions covered because in the case of a COVID-19 situation, you never know what could happen. We're going to keep fighting.
“We decided to increase the competition in goal and then it will be up to the coach to decide which player starts. Koke Vegas has come until the end of the season to fight for a place. Mollejo brings fresh air and quality and Giménez returns to what was his home. They will improve the competition up top.”
With players coming to the end of their contract now able to sign with new clubs as free agents, Ortells also updated fans on improved deals for certain players at the club.
"We are working on the continuity of some players, but it is something that also depends on the other party," he continued. "I would like this issue to be resolved as soon as possible. We want these players to remain at our club."
The global pandemic continues to affect sports across the world as CEO of Business Alfonso Díaz revealed the impact felt by COVID-19.
"COVID-19 has generated about four million euros of negative impact on the entity,” he said. “The owners are aware of everything that happens in the club. Their commitment is strong and they will continue to support RCD Mallorca, and they have shown that, for example, with the last capital increase that was made.
“Whether people can come to the Visit Mallorca Estadi is something that depends on the CSD, but we have to be aware that we are in the third wave and what we hope now is that the pandemic situation improves. We would love for our people to be able to come back.
"It's not the time to think about next season, we’re only thinking about the day-to-day in the Segunda División. The time for planning will come.”
